Mickey Smith...
I grew up in Penzance, riding and swimming the shorebreaks of Lands End with friends and freaks alike. Bodyboarding taught me to appreciate the beauty of heavy waves, and documenting their antics seemed like a natural progression for me from an early age.
At 16 I hit the road heading for the worlds most powerful waves hoping to learn how to flow amongst them. I gradually began to earn myself a basic living from photographs and films based on my work in the water. I'm now 28 and every minute of the continued opportunity to refine my work in the sea is still time spent living for my passion.
Pushing myself to work alongside riders like Fergal and Tom has always been a privilege. To see the lads beginning to make their mark and spearhead surfing's heavy wave movement back at home has always been a big inspiration in itself. Long may it continue. |
